On August 19, 2013, a man was re-arrested for drunk driving. Toxicology tests revealed that his blood-alcohol level was 0.105—over the legal limit of 0.08—following a Tampa car crash. This collision, which badly injured a woman, took place on July 27, 2013.

According to Hillsborough County deputies, Donald A. Ward, 38, turned himself in at the Orient Road Jail around 11:30 a.m. on August 19. Following the new toxicology results, Ward was booked on charges of DUI with property damage and DUI with serious bodily injury.

On the evening of July 27, 2013, Ward was driving a 2007 GMC Envoy south on Providence Road. He blew through a stop sign, crossed the westbound lanes, drove over a raised median, and crashed into another car. The driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Anne Marie Fanning, was headed east on Brandon Parkway near the intersection of Providence Road when Ward slammed into her 2003 Mazda.

Upon impact, Fanning’s car caught on fire and burst into flames. Unfortunately, Fanning was trapped inside and Ward decided to run from the fiery collision. When police arrived on scene, they tracked Ward to a nearby retention pond and arrested him.

Fanning, of Valrico, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Weeks later, she remains hospitalized in fair condition.

Ward already faces charges for leaving the scene of a Florida car crash, and now he faces new DUI charges.

Mallard Perez is saddened to hear of this tragic crash and wishes Anne Marie Fanning a full and fast recovery, and urges all drivers to never drive drunk.
