On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, a bicyclist suffered critical injuries after he rode his bike into a vehicle. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicycle accident occurred late in the evening after 10:00 p.m.

The accident investigation revealed that 52-year-old Jody Gregory was riding his bike westbound on East Bay Street when he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 41. Troopers indicated that Gregory crossed the intersection against a red light and was hit by an oncoming car. Unfortunately, he rode into the pathway of a Chevrolet Blazer that was heading northbound.

Gregory suffered critical injuries and was flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. His injuries have not yet been disclosed, and troopers are still investigating this crash.

Exactly one week earlier, another similar serious bicycle crash in Sarasota occurred on November, 6, 2013. According to Sarasota police, a 20-year-old bicyclist was riding his bike and attempted to cross the intersection at 10th Street and Central Avenue. Police said that he did so against a red light. Unfortunately, a van was traveling into the intersection at the same time and couldn’t avoid hitting the cyclist.

The bicyclist was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment of his critical injuries, but he was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as Victor Harley Foreman.
