On November 21, 2011, a three vehicle Sarasota auto accident left six people injured. The accident took place at the intersection of Fruitville and Beneva Road. The vehicles involved included a Sarasota County Area Transit bus, a black Chevrolet pickup truck, and a white four door Toyota.
At the time of the collision, the bus and the pickup truck were each traveling westbound on Fruitville Road. They had a green light and were moving forward. Unfortunately, the Toyota attempted to make a left turn at the same time while traveling eastbound, striking both the bus and the pickup truck.
Passengers of the Toyota were seriously injured and were taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle was sent by ambulance to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The other individuals injured in the accident included the bus driver, a passenger on the bus and the driver of the pickup truck. They all suffered minor injuries that were treated at the scene of the accident.
The Sarasota police department closed westbound traffic on Fruitville Road at Beneva Road for approximately 3 hours as they investigated the crash.
