"Macho Man" Randy Savage, a legendary professional wrestler with decades of success, fell victim to a fatal Pinellas County car crash in May of 2011. Randy Savage advertised himself as being from Sarasota, Florida throughout his career. He was married to his second wife on Lido Beach just one year ago.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol's accident report, Randy Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler at approximately 9:25 in the morning when he lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep crossed a concrete median while passing through oncoming traffic. The car ultimately struck a tree head-on, severely injuring Randy. His wife, Lynn Savage, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the Pinellas County car accident. She suffered minor injuries in the crash. Randy was transported to Largo Medical Center and later pronounced dead. His wife was taken to a different medical facility and later released.

Before beginning his successful wrestling career, Randy Savage played for baseball teams in both the Gulf Coast League and the Florida State League. After becoming a wrestler, he promoted himself in wrestling advertisements as being from Sarasota. He referred to Sarasota as his "base."

Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Savage family following this tragic accident.
