Hit-and-run accidents are some of the worst types of motor vehicle accidents, and it seems that motorists in Bradenton have had their fair share lately. One recent and serious hit-and-run accident in Bradenton sent a female bicyclist to the hospital in critical condition. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, this crash occurred on U.S. 41 in the early morning of November 6, 2013.

It appears that a car traveling northbound on U.S. 41—also known as 14th Street West—was approaching Orlando Avenue when it collided into the bicycle around 1:40 a.m. Investigators said the bicyclist, also traveling northbound, was riding her bike on the right shoulder when a driver approached from behind but failed to drive around the bicyclist.

The unidentified driver struck the bike with the front right side of the vehicle and took off. Based on the debris found at the accident scene, investigators believe that the hit-and-run driver was driving a blue SUV or pick-up truck. Police are now looking for vehicles matching that description that are missing a passenger-side side mirror and a right headlight.

The bicyclist was seriously injured and taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment for her critical injuries. She has been identified as 30-year-old Crystal Stankiewicz.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anybody with any information to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.

Our Florida accident attorneys would like to wish Crystal Stankiewicz a full and fast recovery following this hit-and-run accident in Bradenton, and we would like to remind drivers to share the road and drive safely around bicycles.
