Within one week, two high school students who attend two different schools in South Florida were hit by vehicles near their schools.

The first accident occurred outside of St. Petersburg High School on Monday, October 15, 2012. Freshman and 15-year-old Aurora Vestel left after school with her twin sister. They were crossing in the crosswalk on 5th Avenue north when a car failed to see them.

According to St. Petersburg police, the driver was traveling about 30 mph and didn’t see the high school students. Upon impact, Vestel hit the windshield and was thrown about 60 feet in the air. She suffered a broken arm, broken leg and broken pelvis and is at Bayfront Medical Center for treatment.

Several days later on Friday, a Tampa pedestrian accident involved a 16-year-old Hillsborough High School student. According to police, the female student was in the crosswalk at Central and MLK Boulevard and tried to cross against a traffic light. She was hit by one car just after 7 a.m. Upon impact she fell to the ground, and was then ran over by another car.

Both the driver of the first car, a gold Kia, and the driver of the second car, a black Chevrolet Tahoe, stopped. Police have not charged them because they didn’t appear to be at fault. Tampa police reported that Glover, the 16-year-old girl, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and is in stable condition. She received multiple injuries but they are not life-threatening.

Our Tampa and St. Petersburg injury lawyers would like to wish both students a fast and full recovery following their pedestrian injuries.
