It is only natural as a parent to be concerned about your child’s safety and want to know any troubling signs you should look for. While not all of the below signs definitely indicate child abuse at school is occurring, this list can help you determine if something is wrong.

For example, if your daughter is being physically abused at school, some of the signs she may exhibit include:

  • Unexplained cuts, bruises, burns, or other injuries when she comes home from school.
  • Not wanting to go to school, resulting in crying or putting up a fight.

Things to watch for if your daughter is being emotionally abused at school include:

  • She may avoid wanting to go to school or ride the bus.
  • She may seem fearful.
  • She may have sudden sleeping difficulties.
  • She may not want anything to do with your affection, or she may act the opposite and never want to leave your side.
  • She may become less talkative.
  • She may suddenly lose confidence.
  • She may become withdrawn and depressed.

Some signs that your child may be a victim of sexual abuse at school includes:

  • Her private parts are itching.
  • She has genital pain.
  • She started getting urinary tract infections.
  • Blood in her underwear.
  • She has sexual knowledge beyond her age.

When kids all of a sudden don’t want to go to school, participate in activities they once loved, withdrawal from their friends, and have changes in their behavior and school performance, it can indicate that there is something wrong. However, it is important to keep in mind these are just warning signs of child abuse and doesn’t necessarily mean that your daughter is a victim of school abuse.
