Shift Workers Have Higher Chances of Causing Florida Bicycle Accidents

People can get into accidents for just about any reason, such as fatigue. If a drowsy driver gets behind the wheel, he or she is likely to fall asleep and crash into other cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles. When a driver basically blacks out while driving, the driver rarely remembers anything about the crash or the moments leading up to the wreck.

Sadly, drowsy driving is responsible for injuring and killing many bicyclists every year. Recently, a fatal Florida bicycle accident occurred due to a drowsy driver.  On September 4, 2013, a couple was riding a tandem bicycle in Clearwater, Florida when a pickup truck crashed into them. Sadly, 25-year-old Rob Lemon died and his girlfriend, 27-year-old Hilary Michalak, was critically injured in the crash.

The driver, a Clearwater hotel worker, was on his way home from work around 6:45 a.m. He told police that he blacked out and didn’t remember hitting anyone. Sadly, one person died and another one suffered critical injuries because one man was too tired to drive safely, but did it anyways.

Shift workers and those who frequently work at night often suffer from fatigue. This may increase their risk of causing a Florida bicycle crash or car crash. When innocent cyclists or other motorists suffer injuries because of drowsy drivers, they have rights to seek compensation for their injuries, medical bills, lost wages, disabilities, pain and suffering, and other damages.
