As parents age, they may lose their ability to function independently and may need the everyday assistance that a nursing home can provide. While there are many nursing homes in Florida to pick from, there are some tools that can help narrow down your search so that you can find the best nursing home.

One of these tools is Medicare’s five-star rating system. For a nursing home to get five-stars, it would have had to get great scores in the following three categories:

  1. Health inspections
  2. Staffing and the amount of time nurses spend with residents
  3. Quality of medical care

Finding a five-star nursing home for your loved one may be easier than you realize. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has a nursing home compare tool where you can read detailed information about the nursing homes you are considering. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report is offering people lists of all the five-star homes in their particular region.

All you have to do is email [email protected] to receive a list of the best nursing homes in 2014. Whether you are looking for nursing homes in the Sarasota, Manatee, or Hillsborough County areas, they will provide you with the data you are looking for. Ratings are updated quarterly, and as data becomes available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. News & World Report will update their lists so you will get the most current information possible.

As nursing home abuse and neglect lawyers, we encourage you to use the five-star rating system as one component in your research. You should always visit each nursing home you are considering multiple times and at various times of the day, and you should talk with other residents and families as well as the nursing home administrators.
