A crash in southern Sarasota County led to a motorcyclist being airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment of his critical injuries. According to the North Port Police Department, a motorcycle accident occurred on Toledo Blade Boulevard near Price Boulevard just before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

North Port Police reported that multiple witnesses saw two motorcycle riders driving erratically down the street—even going the wrong direction on Toledo Blade Boulevard at one point. According to several witnesses, several moments after a motorcyclist was weaving through oncoming traffic, he lost control of his Yamaha motorcycle and crashed into a parking lot. He was thrown from the bike near the 1600 block of Toledo Blade Boulevard and suffered serious injuries.

The motorcyclist who crashed was identified as 24-year-old Craig Fox, of Venice. Authorities indicated that he suffered critical injuries and was not wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash. He was airlifted by medical helicopter to Blake Medical Center for treatment. The last information reported was that Fox was in critical condition.

The other motorcycle rider fled the accident scene before the police arrived, and there has been no description of him, his bike, or any other information about him at this time. Police say charges are pending in this crash, as an investigation is still pending.

Mallard Perez would like to wish Craig Fox a full and fast recovery, and would like to remind all motorists to drive the speed limits and obey the road rules for their own safety and for the safety of others.
