On October 9, 2013, two people suffered serious injuries in an I-75 motorcycle accident in Sarasota County. This Wednesday evening crash closed down the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Laurel Road interchange. According to authorities, this collision took place around 5:50 p.m.

Initial reports indicated that the crash involved a motorcycle, and that a helicopter transported the injured motorcyclists to the hospital. As details unfolded, it was learned that the Sarasota County motorcycle crash also involved a passenger vehicle.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol reports, a motorcyclist on a 1994 Honda VXR was riding with a passenger southbound on I-75. The driver of a 2012 Toyota Camry slammed into the motorcycle. Apparently, the driver of the Camry, also heading southbound in the center lane of I-75, did not realize the motorcycle had slowed for traffic and rear-ended the bike.

Troopers said the collision caused the motorcycle to become pinned underneath the Camry, which continued on for about 400 feet. The motorcyclist and passenger, both of Cape Coral, whose names have not been released, were seriously injured in the crash. In fact, the passenger on the Honda motorcycle suffered critical injuries, according to authorities. They were both flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for medical care.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the southbound lanes of I-75 remained closed near mile marker 193 for about two hours. All lanes reopened at 7:40 p.m.

According to reports, the driver of the Camry was charged with careless driving and remained uninjured. There is no update at this time about the condition of the motorcyclist or passenger injured in this wreck.

The Sarasota accident attorneys of Mallard Perez would like to wish both the injured motorcyclist and passenger a full recovery.
