Three people are dead following a serious Manatee County crash that happened on Saturday, June 9, 2012. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal wreck occurred Saturday night around 7:20 p.m. on State Road 70, near Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.

Three vehicles were involved in this fatal crash, claiming the lives of two adults and one child.  According to authorities, Merritt Hilton Duryea, 54, drove her 2004 Ford pickup truck head-on into a Ford Expedition. The pickup crossed over in the eastbound lanes of traffic on State Road 70, but it was headed westbound.

Unfortunately, the pickup slammed straight into the 2008 Expedition, driven by 63-year-old Laurence Worley, of Myakka City. Also traveling in his SUV at the time of the crash were an 11-year-old boy, 7-year-old boy and 13-year-old boy.

Sadly, he and the 11-year-old boy were both killed in the wreck. The two other children in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to All Children’s Hospital in Tampa for medical treatment. Additionally, Duryea was killed in this Manatee County accident.

Debris from the wreck hit a third car, but 39-year-old Diana Rodgers, the driver of a 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser, was able to steer away from the collision and avoid getting into the crash. She and her 8-year-old passenger, of Lakewood Ranch, were not injured in this accident.

The investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol concluded that Duryea was at fault in this fatal crash.
