Three-Car Crash on U.S. 41 in Sarasota Sends One to Hospital

Posted on Dec 08, 2013

On Tuesday, November 12, 2013, a woman was critically injured in a three-car crash on U.S. 41 in Sarasota. According to authorities, the car crash took place around 8:15 a.m. in south Sarasota, near Vamo Road.

The earliest report indicated that there was a car, SUV, and tractor-trailer involved in the wreck. When rescue workers arrived on scene, they found a woman in serious condition and a rear axle of a semi along with other car parts scattered in the road. Police worked to remove the truck’s rear axle and other accident debris from the road; however, rush-hour traffic was backed up for miles.

A helicopter picked up the woman from U.S. 41 and transported her to Blake Medical Center for treatment. As police investigated the accident scene, they identified the woman as a 61-year-old Venice resident. She was driving a Toyota Sequoia northbound on U.S. 41 when she blacked out and plowed into the rear of a Nissan Altima. Her SUV then traveled across the median and collided with a tractor-trailer.

Upon impact, the rear axle of the tractor-trailer became detached, and police found the truck in the southbound lane about 100 yards away from the rear axle. Authorities also indicated that the SUV was found in a grassy median facing southbound, and the Altima was found facing north in the northbound lane.

As the accident investigation unfolded, both the Altima and Sequoia were determined to be totaled. However, authorities are not releasing the Sequoia driver’s name or if she was the one who blacked out.

The Mallard Law Firm would like to wish all the motorists involved in this three-car crash a full and fast recovery.
