Hit-and-Run Driver Hits and Kills Bicyclist on U.S. 301

Posted on Feb 08, 2014

On January 20, 2014, a bicyclist was struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the bicycle accident on U.S. 301 in Palmetto occurred around 12:30 a.m. Now, this Manatee County crash has left authorities searching for the hit-and-run driver.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Daniel Mimbs, a 26-year-old bicyclist of Bradenton, was riding his bicycle eastbound on U.S. 301 near 19th Avenue East when the accident took place. He was in the right shoulder of U.S. 301 about a mile east of U.S. 41 when an unknown vehicle hit him from the rear and sped away.

As a result of this crash, Mimbs was critically injured and was transported to Blake Medical Center for treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Now, police are searching for the driver of the car who hit Mimbs.

Based on the pieces of the vehicle left at the crash scene, accident investigators believe they are looking for a silver Ford that has right front damage. They found pieces of the vehicle’s right front headlight assembly at the scene, which has led them to release photographs of the type of vehicle they are looking for in connection with this fatal crash. The parts are believed to be from a 1997 to 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck or a 1996 to 2002 Expedition that is silver or is another color with silver trim.

The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call FHP Trooper J. Donnelly at 941-751-8350.

The Mallard Law Firm is saddened to hear of this tragedy and would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Daniel Mimbs.
