Deadly Accident on Major Florida Bridge

Posted on Feb 25, 2013

Keith Williamson died late Wednesday night after his motorcycle collided with a parked Florida Highway Patrol Cruiser. He and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The passenger, Jenna Scott, was sent to St. Joseph’s hospital with serious injuries and is listed as being in critical condition.

Williamson was traveling with several other “bikers” at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. The other bikers her was traveling with agree that they were all speeding. However, they said they were being chased by a Clearwater Police Department officer in an unmarked Camaro. They claim that they were chased for nearly 6 miles at high speeds and felt if they were to slow down, the Camaro would have run them over.

The CPD denies that the officer in the Camaro was conducting a high speed chase. Rather, the law enforcement agent was attempting only to make a traffic stop. Under current guidelines, CPD officers can only engage in a high speed chase if they are pursuing a dangerous felon. These guidelines have been put in place over the past few years to reduce injury or death to innocent bystanders and other drivers.

The group of motorcycles were traveling east on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Mark Blanchard also witnessed what he calls a chase while driving westbound.

Our condolences to the family of Keith Williamson and Jenna Scott.
