While most people would say that texting while driving is the most dangerous activity a driver could participate in while operating a moving vehicle, there is other evidence to suggest that any type of distracted driving could be just as dangerous as texting at the wheel.

This means that not only is texting and driving a dangerous behavior for drivers to engage in, but talking on a handheld cell phone, using a hands-free device, eating, drinking, grooming, dealing with kids in the backseat, talking with passengers, and looking at drivers next to you or other objects outside of the car, could also be enough to cause a car accident on Florida State Road 45.

Any behavior that causes a driver to take his or her mind off of driving, hands off the wheel, or eyes off the road is distracted driving and is considered a risky driving behavior that has led to many crashes. Whether teenagers are accessing their social media accounts from behind the wheel, or business people are sipping their lattes and talking on their hands-free devices while commuting to work, all these behaviors are dangerous and could lead to a distracted driving accident.

In order to reduce your chances of being in a car crash, you shouldn’t use a handheld cell phone to talk or text while driving, avoid using a hands-free device at the wheel, and refrain from eating and drinking while driving. While the last activity might not be as serious as drivers using cell phones at the wheel, eating and drinking while driving can increase your chance of wrecking, according to data from Lytx that was published in Insurance News Net. This is because drivers are taking their eyes off the road, hands off the wheel, and might even spill on themselves—causing a major distraction.
