Slip and fall accidents can not only be humiliating, but they can be overwhelming. If you have never been in a slip and fall accident before, it may be difficult to know what to do and not do in the immediate moments and hours following your accident. Because you will have a lot at stake—your medical bills and lost wages—it is critical that you take the right steps after a slip and fall injury.

While the most important thing you can do following a fall injury is to seek medical attention for your health and your potential personal injury claim, there are many other very important steps you should take. For example, you should report the accident to the manager, landlord, your boss, or the appropriate person. It is also wise that you take pictures of the dangerous condition with your cell phone camera. Sometimes the hazardous condition might be repaired or cleaned up within seconds or hours following your fall, and evidence always goes a long way in establishing your injury claim.

Even after leaving the accident scene, there are still important things you should and shouldn’t do. The insurance company will be calling you, and one of the most important things you can do for your claim is to not give them a recorded statement. They will try to get you to say things that they can use against you to limit their liability.

So that you do the right things and don’t damage your claim, we encourage you to read our article, “Don’t Make These Slip and Fall Mistakes that Could Ruin Your Claim” and our blog “What to Do After a Slip and Fall Accident.”
