In light of the Tracy Morgan truck accident caused by a drowsy truck driver, it’s only natural to be concerned for your safety when sharing the road with a large semi. Unfortunately, many truck drivers drive over the allowable time limits put in place by the government.

Although the last thing you want to think about when driving on I-75 is the truck driver in the large tractor trailer next to your vehicle, it is critical to determine if that truck is being driven by a fatigued trucker. In order to determine if the driver at the wheel of that truck is driving while drowsy, here are some signs you can look for:

  • Drifting in between the lines of traffic in his own lane. When this happens, it could indicate a driver is ready to nod off to sleep.
  • Swerving into another lane of traffic. When a driver is falling asleep at the wheel, he could swerve from his lane into another lane.
  • Not stopping at stop signs or red lights. When a trucker fails to obey the road rules, it could indicate that he may have fallen asleep while driving.
  • Stopping suddenly. If brakes are applied suddenly, and for no reason, it could mean that the driver just woke up and hit the brakes.

If you notice that a truck is being driven in a dangerous manner, you should contact the police and avoid driving near the semi.
