Many tire blowouts have led to serious rollover accidents and serious injuries in Sarasota. Recently, two North Port residents were seriously injured when their sports utility vehicle (SUV) rolled over in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75, just after 11 a.m. on August 14, 2013.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, this single-vehicle Sarasota County car crash was caused by a tire blowout, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the SUV rolled over several times. It came to a rest about 30 feet off the interstate near mile marker 201, just past the S.R. 681 onramp.
The two occupants of the SUV, Jeffery Davis, 41, and Stephanie Sheppard, 33, were seriously injured and taken to Doctors Hospital in Sarasota for medical care. While we do not know at this time why the tire blew out, investigations are being conducted to determine the cause.
