If you were the unfortunate victim of a Florida car accident, you may have suffered a herniated disc as a result of the crash. This injury often results in severe pain, which may last a lifetime. Unfortunately, since discs are not visible on an x-ray, this injury is rarely identified in the emergency room. Many patients try to ignore the pain initially, resulting in even more time passing before the injury is properly diagnosed.
In order to get an accurate diagnosis of a herniated disc following a Florida car crash, doctors may use one of the following diagnostic tests:
  • CT scan
  • MRI
  • Discography
  • Myelography
  • Electromyography
  • Nerve conduction velocity
In addition to these tests, the physician will give the patient a physical exam and take a medical history. The doctor will then likely check for the following:
  • Numbness or loss of feeling
  • Slow or missing muscle reflexes
  • Weak muscle strength
  • Curvature of the spine
The physician will also likely administer the following tests:
  • Examination of the neck, shoulder, arms, hands, lower back, hips, legs, and feet
  • Evaluation of the patient as he or she walks, stands, and sits
  • Evaluation of the patient as he or she bends forward, backward, and sideways
  • Monitoring of the patient as he or she moves the neck forward, backward, and sideways
  • Evaluation of the patient as he or she raises the shoulders, elbow, wrist and hand
